In Ann Scango’s recent article recapping Jai Jai Fei’s expert opinion about art being posted on social media, she explains how art is not being appreciated and respected as it used to be. Social media is diminishing the value of art. Art has become something people just mindlessly share, like, and scroll passed everyday. The whole experience of art stems from taking a feeling and turning that feeling into real life.
A few decades ago, scam artist would personally take time to clear their schedule to go through risky and extreme measures just to steal artwork from museums. In this day and age, technology has truly taken over. Stealing art is easy and can be done by anyone with a smart phone. Jai Jai expresses how illegally posting pictures of restricted art work on social media platforms like Instagram or Facebook is dematerializing. When these illegally captured photos get shared around and liked, it takes away from the live heartfelt experience that comes along with seeing the art in person. Although it may allow some people that do not have the opportunity to visit the exhibit get a small glimpse, it also gives people a reasons not to go because of prejudgement. The personal experience becomes a short encounter as the art becomes just another post or photo on the internet. The reputation of art is most definitely salvageable. It all starts with people. As long as everyone is educated and aware of the complexities that come with the art experience, the art community will not have to parish from lack of appreciation.

In the world of Brazilian construction and real estate development, no name stands taller than that of Jose Auriemo Neto. As one of the most prominent real estate developers throughout the country of Brazil, Jose Auriemo Neto and his company, JHSF Participacaoes, have been at the forefront of completing some of the most ambitious and important projects in the country’s history.
Among the vast and economy-boosting projects that his company has undertaken, few have risen to the heights of the Parque Cidade Jardim, a sprawling development located in the heart of Sao Paulo. What makes the story of the development of this great addition to the city so incredible is that few people even dreamed that the redevelopment of the land on which the development currently sits would be possible.
In 2004, Auriemo Neto first caught a glimpse of what would become one of the largest real estate developments in the history of the city of Sao Paulo. The large, abandoned property sat adjacent to one of the most highly trafficked highways in the country. This property, measuring more than 100 acres, was filled with slums and abandoned buildings that dated back to the early 1900s.
But as all great real estate developers know, the three most important considerations when assessing any property are location, location and location. And it so happened that, despite its gross dereliction, just vast property was located in one of the most fortuitous places that existed within the city.
Auriemo Neto bought the property on the cheap, promising to erect one of the most impressive developments that existed to date in the city. Ultimately, he delivered with flying colors. Today, Parque Cidade Jardim has nine residential towers, four office towers and a mall with more than 180 stores. It is one of the hottest addresses in the country of Brazil.
Rocketship Education is an approved school that is not for profit, and it is based in San Jose, California. The program has a network of K-5 schools that is fixated on individualized learning, and it was established in the year 2006 by Preston Smith and John Danner. Their motto states that at Rocketship, they believe that every kid is entitled to a brilliant education and in that case, they can easily get admission to college which is a journey that begins in kindergarten. Therefore, this program makes sure that more than three-quarters of the students that attend this program get offered free lunch as food could as well be a problem in their homes. Being a free program, one would expect that the school would perform poorly especially with the enrollment of many students after it was founded. Surprisingly, the school did well as the students scored in the same level in their assessments as other schools that were in existence before the programs’ existence. In that case, the program got a lot of approval from the community and was regarded as an advanced option for students from low-income families. With such acceptance, Rocketship Education has grown massively and has expanded to several locations like Milwaukee, Nashville and the Bay Area.
Being a good course, the Rocketship Education program has received funding from various individuals and institutions. For example, Andre Agassi a former tennis professional funded multiple facilities related to the initiative precisely the Rocketship Rise Academy in Washington, D.C. Additionally, he dedicated the Rocketship United Academy in Nashville. In 2015, Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings donated $2 million towards the program to offer support to the Bay Area. Additionally, the Obama administration also invested $2 million towards the development of the program. With such help, the program has been able to assist a lot of children successfully. For such commitment and generosity, the Rocketship Education program has received an award from the Education Department. Therefore the program was offered a grant of $250 million to fund the management organizations for the construction of new schools.

The amount of work necessary to overhaul the public-school system in the United States is overwhelming. The sheer manpower and resources alone would be insurmountable, but Betsy DeVos is willing to take on that role because she believes that the system is in a dire situation at this time. There’s so much that she wants to do to change the system, but one of the biggest things that she wants people to understand is that they have a choice. Instead of feeling walked into the public district that they are being served by, parents seem to understand that they have a choice. She explains to her interviewers over at Philanthropy that this is something that not all parents understand they have a choice in what comes to their children.
In fact, much of Betsy DeVos’s career has been dedicated to the notion of school choice because she has seen that many parents do not understand that they have one. People are socialized to believe that they must attend the school that is closest to them in their school district, but they do not understand that there are options available to them even at this time when there are substantial growth options in this area. She explained that there are a multitude of options and the growth in the school choice sector has been nothing short of miraculous in recent years. More than 250,000 new students entered the system in just the last two years, and that is only poised to increase every single year that these options have been available to the students. Parents are learning that there are better options available to them and they are immediately seeing the results when it comes to their children’s overall happiness with the process. There is a sense of empowerment that is unmatched in the public-school system.
Betsy DeVos understands the power of education. She is a college graduate herself, from Calvin College. She put her children through private schools all of their life and made sure that they understood how important getting an education was. She has even helped create programs that make private schools and other alternative education institutions possible for children of lower income statuses. While it is easy to say that many politicians are advocates for this level of change, Betsy DeVos has always been out in the trenches fighting for this type of education. She has even been an advocate for vouchers or tax breaks for parents who choose to enroll their children in alternative education programs. For many this makes sense because they are not using the public-school system and would not need to pay the taxes for that, it also makes it possible for them to enroll their students into these programs when they would not normally be able to do so. She is looking for ways to make this a viable option for all Americans so that the system will be something that works for both the parents and the students that are expected to learn from it.
