Social Media – “I Came, I Saw, I Selfied”- by Ann Scango

In Ann Scango’s recent article recapping Jai Jai Fei’s expert opinion about art being posted on social media, she explains how art is not being appreciated and respected as it used to be. Social media is diminishing the value of art. Art has become something people just mindlessly share, like, and scroll passed everyday. The whole experience of art stems from taking a feeling and turning that feeling into real life.

A few decades ago, scam artist would personally take time to clear their schedule to go through risky and extreme measures just to steal artwork from museums. In this day and age, technology has truly taken over. Stealing art is easy and can be done by anyone with a smart phone. Jai Jai expresses how illegally posting pictures of restricted art work on social media platforms like Instagram or Facebook is dematerializing. When these illegally captured photos get shared around and liked, it takes away from the live heartfelt experience that comes along with seeing the art in person. Although it may allow some people that do not have the opportunity to visit the exhibit get a small glimpse, it also gives people a reasons not to go because of prejudgement. The personal experience becomes a short encounter as the art becomes just another post or photo on the internet. The reputation of art is most definitely salvageable. It all starts with people. As long as everyone is educated and aware of the complexities that come with the art experience, the art community will not have to parish from lack of appreciation.

Alex Pall and The Chainsmokers Prepare For New Era.

You don’t have to be a hardened fan of dance music or EDM in order to understand the imprint that The Chainsmokers have left on the pop world. The Chainsmokers, comprised of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, have been monthly mainstays at the top of the Billboard’s list of hot tracks ever since they first came together. Most well known for songs like ‘Closer’ and ‘Paris’, The Chainsmokers are preparing to change directions in order to bring something new to the world.

Alex Pall and Andrew Taggert were both working in music, albeit in very different states, when it was first suggested that they meet and ponder working together by a mutual friend. Their first meeting went well and, obviously, the rest quickly became history. Over the past couple of years, The Chainsmokers have been tireless in their work ethic and on-point with a release schedule that is almost unparalleled in the industry. The Chainsmokers have been releasing tracks on an almost monthly basis for a long time but it quickly became clear that change was required. Pall and Taggart decided to step away from their hectic schedule in order to hone their craft and really personalize the stories that they are attempting to tell.

The newest song on the release schedule for The Chainsmokers is called ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ and it features Andrew Taggart on the vocals. Taggart and Pall have been locked into the manufacturing of all of their music, but they’ve typically allowed guest artists to come on board in order to sing the chorus. Taggart is taking over that role for what should be the beginning of a completely new era for the group. The famous DJers want to make their music more personal than ever and that means that they need to get in front of telling the story themselves. This is a remarkable change but a vastly important one. While details on their new record have been mostly scarce, it appears that The Chainsmokers are aiming to completely change their perception within the pop world while elevating themselves as artists along the way.
