JD.com, a Chinese e-commerce company, announced that it is opening up a logistics network that will offer parcel delivery services across the country.The company has enabled the users of its app in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai to send parcels around the cities and even across the whole country. The JD’s new parcel service will see the company utilize its sophisticated technology and infrastructure to give its customers even more diverse services than it is currently offering in its an e-commerce platforms. It will also open up its infrastructure to other businesses, shippers and industries.
JD.com is planning to extend the new parcel service to cover sending and delivery of luxury items, high-end consumer electronics and other high value products. It is also working to enable both residential and business deliveries for customers around China.In a statement, Zhenhui Wang, JD Logistics CEO, said that the launch of the logistics is a big step towards utilizing the infrastructure the company has built over the years to offer a variety of services to their users.According to Jingdong data, the services will be majorly used by urban professionals who are in need of quick as well as reliable delivery. According to a recent survey, 74% of participants had a dire desire for same day, high-quality intra-city delivery service.
The service is still in its experimental stage and JD Logistics is figuring out the best way for customers to request pickups. It is doing that through user trials. Apparently, pickup requests are not limited to JD.com app users only. Customers can also request pickups through a JD Delivery program jdcom in WeChat as well as a JD “Delivery Team” in WeChat account. JD partnered with Tencent to offer the JD Delivery mini program in WeChat where shippers can request pickups. In addition, Tencent is in-charge of the JD Delivery mini program’s operation.In a statement, the company said that JD operates a countrywide sophisticated in-house logistics network capable of handling same day or next day order deliveries. Over 90% of orders can be delivered on the same or next day. This venture will make the company’s presence in China be felt even more.
In early February 2018, the US stock market experienced one of the most dramatic drops it has seen in recent times. One of the points that Shervin Pishevar mentioned in his tweet rant had to do with the fact that Silicon Valley has lost its exclusivity. That’s not really a bad thing, but it is not something that is good for short-term economic growth in the United States. The strongholds on ideas and talent that Silicon Valley once possessed are no longer something to be relied on. The United States no longer has a monopoly on the entrepreneurial spirit and the backing for startups. Talented immigrants no longer need to come to the United States to get their ideas going. He cites an example of a team building a train station in China in under 10 hours.
Shervin Pishevar did mention some companies that he feels will inspire good work. Out of the decaying infrastructure of the United States, he feels that there are some moonshots that will inspire hope. One he mentioned is Virgin Hyperloop. Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt considering he is one of the co-founders of this company. In order to experience a global economy everyone can enjoy, he feels that middlemen need to become irrelevant.
Mark Holterman is a surgeon that has acquired a lot of fame and respect in the last couple of years.
He is a professor at the University of Illinois College, where he teaches surgery and pediatrics to medical students. He is considered by many to be one of the best surgery professors in the University and the United States, but that is not his only prominent role.
The professor is also the leader of Mariam Global Health, where he is the CEO for half a decade. Mark Holterman has made may achievements in the role of surgery which granted him the position of CEO of the biggest health & care companies in the city.
With more than twenty years of experience and much more studying medicine and surgery as a whole, he is also a sympathizer of the IPSAC-VN movement. For those who are not familiar with the movement, the “International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam,” it is a team comprised of charitable people who want to help victims of the Vietnamese, who do not have access to quality surgeries and doctors to inspect and analyze their well-being and health.
Mark Holterman is part of the team. In fact, he is an active surgeon and is constantly helping Vietnamese children who need special attention and healthcare treatments (Interview.net). Mark Holterman is one of the contributors responsible for improving the pediatric treatments available to these children victims. He has already made tons of charities and contributed to initiatives to raise awareness of the problem and the need for supplies.
The alliance of these pediatric specialists is itself an initiative that is part of the University of Illinois, but they are also collaborators with the Hospital of the region, the Hospital of Illinois, and with the St. Francis Medical Center, which has already made many charitable contributions towards their cause.
The project that Mark Holterman works with is also a national treasure, as the US Government themselves approve and support the IPSAC-VN project with the Vietnam Education Foundation Faculty Scholar Grant, provided to improve what the team is capable of doing for the Vietnamese children.
