Leen Kawas managing partner of Propel Bio, was interviewed by Angel Invest Boston to discuss some of her recent endeavors. Her company Propel Bio partners is located in Los Angeles, California. They invest in different companies they believe will be successful. One of the companies they work with is Persephone Biosciences, this company specializes in gut microbiome health. She expressed that she enjoys working with Persephone Biosciences because of their scientific approach to things. Persephone does clinical trials to study and understand the gut microbiome. they have even studied the baby biome and it has helped mothers to understand infant probiotics and has helped them decide if breastfeeding or infant formula is best for their baby. Motherhood can be very stressful so understanding these things and the fact that some babies have underlying gut health conditions helps a lot.
Another company she’s working with is Inherent Bio, they specialize in epigenetics. Leen Kawas explained to the interviewer that epigenetics is the coding that goes beyond DNA. The DNA is basically the same in all humans but epigenetics is what gives us our differences in our DNA. Leen Kawas has invested in more than seventy startups. She also wants entrepreneurs to remember not to give up if they get rejected. She never forgets how hard things were for her starting off but she didn’t give up. She wants all entrepreneurs to know that they may get knocked down a few times but entrepreneurship can be so rewarding if they don’t give up. One thing that kept her going was knowing why she was doing it. Her why was her patients. the most important thing that she wants entrepreneurs to know is to tell their story and not to give up.
