Greg Aziz´s Outstanding Leadership

Greg Aziz was one of the first imports to come over to National Steel Car in the 80s and has been with them ever since. He wasn’t just a mechanical engineer but was later given a managerial post before he eventually became their Chairman & CEO. In his almost 20 years as their CEO, he’s helped National Steel Car grow exponentially.

 

He achieved this by branching off into other markets and by developing cleaner technologies – which is what they’re so well known for today. Greg Aziz was born in 1952. He gradually developed a passion for being an engineer and began to take on more responsibilities within the industry.

 

This, after the business expert graduated from high school, eventually setting his sights on a position at National Steel Car. Greg Aziz was the first person to arrive in the 1960s and became one of their engineers by 1973 when he began to work as a general manager. He was eventually promoted to Vice President by 1985 and President by 1997, with his responsibilities including sales and manufacturing engineering.

Greg Aziz’s biggest achievement was to turn National Steel Car around after he became its President in 1997. They were facing a loss of $15 million and were on the brink of bankruptcy after ceasing business with a major customer. Aziz, however, had other plans for them and turned their fortunes around in no time. He improved their facilities so that they could catch up with current trends and revived other major clients that had been lost due to the decline in business.

Greg Aziz has been a very successful CEO in the steel industry, running National Steel Car for almost 20 years. His management and outstanding leadership have helped them grow into a giant in Canada and he has left a legacy behind that remains to this day. Additionally, Greg Aziz joined the board of directors at Aecon Group in 2005.
