Shelton Haynes, President & CEO of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, has a vision. His company is dedicated to promoting healthy options on the Island. Haynes was born and raised in New York City. Since he took the helm, Haynes has overseen numerous projects on Roosevelt Island to improve its residents’ health and well-being.
Haynes makes it a point to encourage his staff to volunteer on the Island. It’s a great opportunity for them to interact with the community and learn how to improve it from an experiential perspective. The RIOC has several initiatives to maintain a healthy workforce, including programs that promote physical activity, stress reduction, and nutrition awareness. It also hosts educational seminars on these subjects so employees can return their expertise to work.
The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation is dedicated to maintaining the Island’s historic buildings and restoring new structures that are going up. Haynes’s leadership is focused on ensuring every project is undertaken in the best way possible. It’s difficult to know whether the RIOC is truly making progress by just looking at the outside, but Haynes and his team are doing a tremendous job bringing up Roosevelt Island from its descent from metro New York City. Currently, many of Roosevelt Island’s buildings have been rehabilitated and restored. And many more are on the way.
Shelton Haynes and his staff are always working to improve the Island. Every year, volunteers build a new garden to help restore the Island’s ecosystem. The RIOC is looking into sustainable ways to reduce energy consumption. It has also worked with various local organizations to promote recreational activities for its residents, including improved hiking trails and Riverwalk neighborhoods. Under his guidance, the corporation unveiled the FDR Hope Memorial in honor of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Recently, Haynes publicized the Youth Center Development by School Age Child Care(SACC) licensing. This means Haynes leadership has been the main reason for the center to attain the license by meeting the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and the New York City Department of Health (DOH) standard requirements. With Haynes in the executive position, the Island is bright and new, with a bright shining future. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation is dedicated to taking care of the Island for its residents. They want everyone who lives there to feel healthy, energetic, and enthusiastic about their work and their lives.
