Why Should You Care About the Colcom Foundation?

The world is a scary place these days with issues like overpopulation and
ecological disasters rearing their ugly heads and threatening our species. The
good news is that organizations like the Colcom Foundation are fighting
back against the existential crisis that we face and are making good progress
in their pursuit of a better future.

Founded on a Dream

Back in the 50s, Cordelia S. May dreamed of a better world. She was a big supporter
of democracy, equality, and freedom of speech. More importantly, she recognized
the growing threats to humanity and was determined to take them head-on. After
decades of fighting the good fight, she created the Colcom Foundation in 1996.
They would go on to continue her legacy after her passing in 2005.

Saving the Environment

Humans can’t live without the environment, that’s just a fact. While many people mock
environmentalism or dismiss it, they can’t deny that if we let it all go up in
flames, then we’re not going to survive. This is why Colcom is working its
hardest to push back against the rampant environmental destruction happening
these days. Their efforts have saved many species and green spaces in
Pennsylvania and their work is ongoing.

The Foundation understands the importance of protecting and connecting greenspace
in southwestern Pennsylvania. To this end, they support projects such as Hollow Oak Land Trust, Western
Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Revolving Fund, WeConservePA and Westmoreland Land
Trust.

Curbing the Population Crisis

Another fact that can’t be ignored is that the Earth has a finite number of resources.
The more people there are, the faster the resources get used up. At this rate,
we could end up back in the Stone Age before long. Fortunately, the Colcom Foundation is
working to slow down overpopulation
by teaching people
about serious topics such as family planning and birth control.

Colcom also wants to make sure that immigration is done intelligently to help balance
out aging populations. This will ensure that there is less stress put on the
economy and social structures that are already feeling the weight of population
imbalance. Read this article for
