Matthew Mansell was a professional rugby player and his career helped shape the business he developed called Athlo. When he returned to work in finance, he had a gym membership, tennis membership, and several other sports membership packages. He had to cancel most of his memberships when he realized his future was not in rugby or finance.

During the pandemic he saw many gyms and sports clubs empty and not being used during peak and off-peak times. He had a network of friends that owned gyms and boutique sports clubs. He says that despite the digital trend of working at home people still want to go to the gym or club to work out.

Matthew the Athlo founder has created an app that allows gym members in London to sell unused days or classes to other members. This way they can get the most from their memberships even on days when they do not, they use it. He says the new hybrid model of work is that employees work from home a few days a week and travel into London to work in a brick-and-mortar company.

It has its mobile app available for iOS and Android, which allows users to connect directly with third-party services and their coaches. The coaches were able to set personalized workouts for the users based on their goals and needs.

This app allows members to have a gym membership with flexibility. The memberships have access to other gyms or sports facilities and can sell classes and time when not using it. Many consumers want to return to the gym and do not want to continue working out only at home.

Athlo is a fitness app that bridges the gap between digital workouts and brick and mortar fitness centers. Many consumers like digital workouts but want to return to the gym to work out and connect with other people, says Mansell. He believes digital fitness is here to stay but his app can make the digital and brick and mortar businesses work better together.

Matthew wants to be the next fitness unicorn. His fitness app will encourage more people to be physically active. They can work out digitally or return to brick-and-mortar gyms and sports facilities. His app is used by several gyms and sports clubs in London.
